Linguística Aplicada Transviada: Intersectionality, Decoloniality and Transdisciplinarity in Language Education

Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
Fábio Bezerra

In this bilingual presentation, I briefly present the main components of what I have termed Transviada Applied Linguistics in my latest book, com especial atenção para o papel da transdisciplinaridade no avanço do ensino-aprendizagem de idiomas em direção à descolonialidade de práticas e discursos ao enfatizar a interseccionalidade como um caminho para a inclusão in terms of gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, social class etc.

Language Education and LGBTQIA+ Bodies, Genders and Sexualities

Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
Daniel Ferraz

In this presentation, I will discuss some projects and pedagogical practices that I have designed as an English Professor of the Languages (in English and Portuguese) undergraduate courses at the University of São Paulo. These practices show that LGBTQIA+ bodies, genders and sexualities can be ethically present in language education.

LGBTQIA+ Studies and Language Education

Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
Souzana Mizan

Strategies of Border Talk to Support LGBTQI+ Inclusion in Critical Language Education View Digital Media

Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
Joel Windle

In this paper, I discuss how LGBTQIA+ themes are navigated by critical language educators under the pressures of neonationalist politics and commercial foreign language course structures. Drawing on research undertaken with teacher education students at Fluminense Federal University, I discuss such navigation in terms of border talk, which constitutes a counterhegemonic metapragmatic regime. I discuss additional strategies available to strengthen critical literacies and build solidarity amongst teachers under hostile institutional conditions.
