The Place of the Disabled in the Field of Applied Linguistics

Studies in the area of Literacies and Critical Literacy have certainly brought to the fore the awareness and the need for considering the diversity of subjectivities in language education worldwide. In addition to that, decolonial studies have emphasized and explained the reasons why diverse subjectivities have been marginalized throughout history in the Global South. In spite of the efforts of language studies to consider marginalized subjectivities, we believe that the disabled subjectivities have not yet been given the attention they should in the field of Applied Linguistics. Therefore, this paper shows and problematizes the discussions that took place in the project called Life and Learning Trajectories with/of People with Disabilities, whose participants were people with disabilities, their family and /or their caregivers, undergraduate students and school teachers. Among the objectives of the project were (1) the getting to know people with disabilities and their trajectories of life and meaning-making processes, (2) the deconstruction of ableism, (3) the understanding of coloniality regarding people with disabilities, (4) the reconceptualization of the term disability, and (4) the attempt to interrupt coloniality. The project has been taking place since April, 2022 and has given us insights as for the need for pedagogical transformations and the interruption of coloniality.

Sendo 'educação linguística' conceito em disputa, importa entendermos como e quais versões do termo pautam nossa prática educativa cotidiana. Partindo disso e da percepção de uma articulação entre capacitismo, neoliberalismo e educação, argumento em favor de assumirmos o compromisso com uma educação linguística marcadamente anticapacitista. Para tanto, proponho relatar e analisar alguns aspectos do projeto "Traduzir-se: autismo em primeira pessoa na prática acadêmica", coordenado recentemente por mim, cujo processo favoreceu a emergência de tais questões.

Negociando Imagens: Caminhos na Formação de Professores Bilíngues View Digital Media

Diante do desafio do encontro em salas de aula bilíngues, propomos reflexões sobre a formação de professores de surdos usuários de Libras, em torno de três conceitos basilares: desconstrução, translinguagem e interseccionalidade. Deste modo, exploraremos possibilidades de diálogos entre subjetividades plurais e educação linguística em contextos que se desejam interculturais. Partiremos da discussão de imagens postas em negociação e de exercícios autoetnográficos, que sublinham a necessidade de questionar ações e pensamentos ratificados pela doxa, em busca de uma formação capaz de acolher as alteridades e de instigar processos permanentes de autorreflexão e práticas críticas.

How may English as a Foreign Language pre-service teachers’ identities should be configured? What does it entail to accompany pre-service teachers’ professional development? In this intervention, I describe how “pedagogy of possibilities” allows us to create a safe classroom environment; enhances English as a Foreign Language pre-service teachers' sense of belonging; and fosters diversity.
