Abstract

The color of clothing is a reflection of the current society, economy and culture. During the 30 years of China’s rapid development, the colors of Chinese clothing have been changing. By studying the evolution of clothing colors, it is possible to summarize the changing patterns of clothing colors during the 30 years and thus use them to study the social development of China during this period. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, the saturation of clothing colors, the brightness of colors, the number of colors in a set of clothing and the matching of clothing colors are studied. This study was conducted quantitatively by collecting a large number of representative images and videos of clothing over a 30-year period. The results of the study show that from 1993 to 2023, the evolution of color in Chinese clothing has a regularity and the color fashions show a cyclical nature. At the same time, the evolution of clothing color coincides with the social development of China, and it is feasible to study the social development through clothing color.
