The Design Studio: A Three Dimensional Concept

Abstract

This paper presents the results of an empirical study on the design studio educational setting. The study is based on 17 interviews of design studio teachers and professors; we applied a grounded theory research method to identify what were the main aspects that educators associate with the design studio. The results reveal that the design studio has three main dimensions and multiple ideas associated with its pedagogy. Furthermore, there was surprising consensus in the participants answers. The results of the study contribute to the consolidation of the theoretical underpinnings of the design studio educational setting.
