Emília Duarte is an Associate Professor with habilitation at IADE, Universidade Europeia, Lisbon, Portugal, where she has been teaching since 1991. She holds a Ph.D in Human Kinetics with specialization in Ergonomics (2011) from the Universidade Técnica de Lisboa and a Masters degree in Ergonomics in Occupational Safety (2004). She has a B.A. in Product Design from IADE – Escola Superior de Design (1994). Currently, she is the Director of UNIDCOM – IADE’s Research Unit in Design and Communication. In addition, Duarte coordinates the Ph.D in Design program from IADE. She was appointed vice-rector for Research of IADE-U from 2014 to 2016. Her research interests are related with subjects as cognitive ergonomics, with emphasis for warnings and safety communication, virtual reality, UX, IxD, design for behaviour change, design for health and wellbeing and emotional design. Since 2009 she has supervised more than 30 Master's theses and 2 PhD theses, and is currently supervising 5 PhD theses and Master's theses.
