Cultural Landscape along Kone and Ha Thanh River in Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh
Abstract
By researching traditional experiences of adaptations for natural disasters, especially regarding the cultural landscape in the Kone and Ha Thanh rivers of the Binh Dinh province in central Vietnam, this article explores the cultural behavior of people who prevented and adapted to floods and disasters. The value of cultural behavior for the natural environment and social awareness and community organization for flood adaptation have been demonstrated through practical applications of traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) of the local community. The acknowledgment of values and behaviors in the cultural landscape will bring both opportunities and challenges for the organization of architectural spaces and landscapes that could enhance cultural identity while contributing to strategic planning for flood adaptations.
